The heart of any extruder is its screw. The screw, driven by a motor acting through a reduction gear box rotates in the barrel. The raw material, usually in granular form, drops from the feed hopper into the screw, more specifically into the spiral groove defined between the screw flights, the root of the screw and the inner wall of the barrel. The screw is composed of feeding zone, melting zone and metering zone.
